Medicare is health insurance that allows people over the age of 65 and those with medical conditions that prevents them from earning a living. The charges incurred during treatment and for medication is disbursed by the federal government but with a lot of conditions. MedicAid is the next government sponsored health care program to which there are also many prequalification requirements. Requirements do vary from state to state and are also governed by the federal government.
The last form of government health program is for those who cannot qualify for regular insurance due to a pre-existing medical condition. This happens with say a person with heart disease which private insurance providers would deny outright and government health rules may forbid.
